They said that their love was forever...forever and a day
Until that big black Cadillac took her love away.
She left no goodbye note, only kisses in the wind
and they’d be together when the Cadillac came for him.
Each morning, he’d look out a dusty windowpane
in hopes of seeing her as she decided to love him again.
His door was darkened and silent...all company, he lacked
as he sat and waited for the return of that big, black Cadillac.
Years went by and his heart healed over a deepened scar.
A numbness grew inside of him in wait for that one car.
That was the only time that he knew he’d see her again...
He knew that she would send that Cadillac back for him.
Ah, but the years melted by and the calendars faded
into more tomorrows now existing as yesterdays jaded.
The mirror revealed an old man staring back into his eyes.
She’s been gone so many years...there were no goodbyes.
One dreamless night, he thought the headlights drew near
piercing the darkness from that big, black Cadillac, was it truly here?
He spent so many years in waiting and that’s a lonely curse.
He finally got to see her again...as he rode Home in that hearse.
