flat feet to dirt rising
swirl colors and white Jesus
praise spirits with spirits
and dance da Vatican
chanting Vo dum and drums
convulsions

Her body danced convulsion

moved with spirits knocking white Jesus off lime and orange

and rose colored concrete

her feet stopmed dirt floors, and women and children

and men knowing

like people who flew she danced

bring them to her bedside

all the time she fights

fought

men folk protecting her to death

her body weeped and celebrated ladies dancing feet to body

round de umbrella man can~can

and her body danced convulsion

embaressed men gulk at the adudacity of her untrust

rather live-to-die free like Ford

now at her bedside

she knows it is time nearing and her body danced convulsion

her body danced convulsion

already in need already in need she danced glory be

and her body moved with spirits in convulsion

we didn't know how serve her body would shake

spirits take hold she be dancing out of control

she be stomping dirt floors

conjure them to her shores

visit her bedside will see her, will see her

rise

dancing can~can under Haitian Skies
