Isla Bella

A love poem to my island...

I close my eyes.
I still smell your salty air;
Your sandy body running through my hands;
Your rhythm whispering in my ear;
Beautiful island…

Oh, how I long to roam your belly again Puerto Rico.
Do you still love me the way you did long ago?
We had a short love affair, you and I.
Back in the days when my young feet wandered,
And played in your bath water;
Ate the fruits of your womb.
My roots are tangled in your very being;
my ancestry;
in your breeze.

I can hear you, isla bella y verde;
You are calling me.
One day soon,
I promise,
I will return to you.
