We lived in the same neighbourhood
Everything about you was so good
As close friends, we shared school notes
We studied together
I admired your beauty, your hair that is soft as feather
Our friendship blossomed into love
I found you as gentle as a water dove
As I planted that first kiss on your lips, you blushed
I began to think of you all day long, caring for you so much
Though there was parental objections, you stuck by me
We met secretly, we fell madly in love
During our secret courtship, we exchanged love letters
Though you were physicaly abused by your mother for falling in love with me
Your undying love for me, you felt, was all that mattered
Our strong passion for each other took a toll on your studies
Though I got through secondary school, you did not do that well
Your father's angry look, I could tell
He felt you brought him shame
To do this day, I wonder if I was to blame?
Family objections prevented me from seeing you
So we drifted apart, my heart sank when you found somebody new
Even though you are married now with a grown up daughter
I still think of you once in a while, and for your well being, I do bother
For many years I have not heard or seen you, Gwynee
But I had a dream about you yesterday at half past three
Gwynee, there will always be a place for you somewhere in my heart
For though we have not met for 20 years, your vision , your lovely face from me will not part
Sincerely,
Raymond Anthony Fernando
