Become a Fan

The women who serve in the armed forces have made a choice.

The Uniform

blue denim with an eagle
creases on the sleeve
hangs on the door post

a moment of contemplation
weighing the choice
serve your country
or raise a child

tears verge
at the enormity

hands on distended belly
a foot nudges my hand
like she knows I'm there

One little life
against my oath to a nation

something inside my core being
slowly unfurls
wraps me warmly

strength

I am a beacon
pulsating life

I am woman
