Woman of Substance
To world I am a legend today
I have given all of me in
Everything I have done
I remember my youth
I was tossed around like a coin
I was laughed at about ambition
I was reminded I was a second class citizen
I was a woman and dared not speak
My job was defined by my sex
I was a woman only to be seen not heard
I would be a wife and bear lots of children
I was totally relegated to the background
I was raised to serve and not be served
I was raised to accept everything
Without any complaints
I would have no say in anything
As all these echoed in my head
I would cry but no tears would fall
I constantly made my heart my best friend
All my dreams were buried deep in my heart
All secrets were told to my heart
I would smile from my heart always
That smile was an instant magnet
A star cannot be hidden
It will shine and blossom always
My day came and I followed my heart
A star had been born: I became unstoppable
I climbed the highest of all mountains
I did all that I was told I could not do
Never say Never remains my motto
Today I am a woman of substance
In all aspects and in every capacity!
