Psalm 146 [147] is one of my favorite poems. Here it is, omitting the first stanza, but otherwise exactly as it is printed in my book, "Bible Wisdom: PSALMS of Praise & Power newly translated from the Greek Old Testament".

God Heals the Broken-Hearted

The Lord God heals the broken-hearted

and binds up all their wounds.

He raises tender-hearted people –

people who are kind and considerate –

but brings sinners down to the ground!

He spreads clouds over the sky

to prepare abundant rain for the earth,

so that grass may spring up on the mountains

to provide food for all His animals

and the ravens and birds of the air

for whom He cares.

His understanding is infinite.

He has named and numbered every one

of all the multitudes of stars in the arch of the sky!

Great is our Lord God.

and great is His strength!

The Lord God does not take pleasure

in the strength of a bull or a horse.

Likewise, He’s not well-pleased

with the muscles and sinews of men.

His pleasure lies in those who honor Him,

and His delight with all who place their trust

in His constant love.
