At the Town Square
jazz music and trumpets
and pretty girls swaying
to music.
holding hands while
the kids played on swingsets,
lovers smiled as
the early summer concert
soothed nerves, and
Jen even forgot tomorrow,
the serving of papers,
the confrontations necessary
getting to divorce.
Jack, light-hearted
and romantic, teased
her, kissed her neck,
and swung the kids wildly
in the night air.
so much laughter,
school would be
out for the summer,
cicadas humming soon.
