Back Row at the Varsity

college kids at the serious
movie, global warming
a hotter topic? no way, I
don't believe it can surpass
adultery.

Jen met me today, she
entered the dark theater,
climbing over trendy student
activists, all in jeans,
all hissing for her to sit down,
she found me in the middle,
using her hands to feel
her way.

she clumped down in
the seat I saved, her
kiss an earthy smell
of peanuts and coke,
her own effervescence
bubbling over with guilt,

but we held hands, and
smooched like two teenagers,
her eyes on her wristwatch,
not wanting to be late,
her kids out of school
in one hour.
