A poem dedicated to my favorite teacher.

Despite the gifts I was given--
a diary covered in mocha and gold,
and a set of stationery from Japan
I set my face in the crook of my arm
and wept.

Summer and its promise of freedom
lay outside the door.

I could not rejoice, for
at eight years old, I knew
no one would ever
have books
or the love
for my poems
stories
and essays
like Mrs. Pine.

...beautiful poetic thoughts of remembrance...for one...who gave light...and of one who captured it. I also remember the the light of those...no longer near...yet they remain.
