Here's a true story and an actual picture of the old oak tree. Can you see it in the poetry, too? The tree watches over our home year round.

We looked for a plot of land for our dream house.
It had to be just so.
A creek,
And it had to have a very majestic old oak tree.
How I looked for that aged tree
Then I saw the tree with it all,
And I asked myself,
“Why do I love it?”

We decided that plot of land had to be ours.
It was just so
A creek,
And it had the very majestic old oak tree.
How we loved that aged tree
Then I examined it carefully,
And I asked myself,
"Why do I love it?"

We had our house built on that plot of land.
It was just so.
A creek,
And we loved the majestic old oak tree.
How others love our aged tree.
Then we had our plot landscape,
And I asked myself,
“Why do they love it?”

A tree
For love of it,
We pray for the strength
To make that plot of land beautiful,
For our neighbors look upon and enjoy it.
This land upon which our old oak resides
Will have gardens, colorful blooms
Flowering bushes,
A creek,
We do all this for the love of a majestic old oak tree
And we do it because we love our neighbors and friends.

I adore "shape" poems! And your autumn colors make this leap of the screen. But even without the frills, the poem would still stand out as exceptional. I enjoyed the repeating line: "It was just so." - the line as the perfect (and gentle) touch.

A beautifully expressed poem, wonderful message...I too love trees, and have written much about them. We couldn't live without trees...

Surreal and beautiful write, Patricia. Reminds me so much of my days growing up in Ohio.
Thank you.
