The summer that my great nephew, Trent, turned five, I asked him if he was ready to start kindergarten. He replied, "I'm not going to kindergarten." So I asked, "Why not?" Trent replied, "Kindergarten sucks." So I asked, "What are you going to do all day?" Trent replied, "Stay home and play." But when school started he went to kindergarten, even though he didn't want to. So to cheer him up I bought him a kid size guitar and wrote him this song. Hope you and the little people in your life have fun with it.

The Kindergarten Blues

Copyright by R.E. Armstrong, 2002

Grammy buys me presents,

She listens when I talk.

But she lives in Arkansas,

To far for me too walk

(Blues riff)

Just gives me the blues,

(Blues riff)

Ol’ kindergarten blues.

(Blues riff)

Mommy she’s so pretty,

Works hard every day.

Sometimes she gets so busy,

She’s got no time to play.

(Blues riff)

I got the blues,

(Blues riff)

Them kindergarten blues.

(Blues riff)

My little sister Haleigh,

She’s cute as she can be.

Sometimes it seems when she’s around,

Folk’s don’t notice me.

(Blues riff)

Gives me the blues

(Blues riff)

Them old kindergarten blues.

(Blues riff)

I got this teenage brother,

Best brother alive.

But he won’t let me drive his truck,

Cause I’m only five.

(Blues riff)

I gots me the blues

(Blues riff)

Low down kindergarten blues.

(Blues riff)

Some days my dad goes fishing,

I’d like to go along.

But I’m stuck in kindergarten,

That’s why I wrote this song.

(Blues riff)

Just can’t lose,

(Blues riff)

These ol’ kindergarten blues.

And how in the world did I miss this one? Precious beyond words (and melodies), a sure fire hit! Well done, R.E.

Loved it! I teach first grade and we just watched the kindergarten graduation a few weeks ago as we are now on summer vacation. I could just invision the kids singing this song! You should really try publishing this song if you've not already...or write a small chapbook of poetry/songs for this age. I could see myself using this type of material in my classroom for first grade! I think this is wonderful! Glad I stopped by your den, I'll be back to read more of your work! Very impressed!
Blessings from Ky.
