I met a mother along with her four children
Whose only shelter was their car.
The mother asked for food or money
To purchase a meal or two.
Despite the protest and proclamation
of embarrassment by her older kids,
she began to tell
Me a little about her plight and what
Had gotten her and her family in
Their vulnerable position. Understanding
The feelings of her children, having
Been in their seat years ago, I politely
Hushed her and handed her $20 and
Told her to stay safe.
I love the act of giving because I am
Thankful for what’s been given to me.
An older woman and I crossed paths
In front of a service station. When I
Walked by her I noticed that she was
Crying and I couldn’t help but to
Inquire. All she wanted was to get
To work. She would have walked
But the soles of her feet were already
sore from the steps she had already taken.
Having been in her shoes on several occasions,
I invited my elder into my car and helped
Her complete her journey.
I love the act of giving because I am
Thankful for what’s been given to me.
A young woman who was a
Close friend of the family but
Didn’t have much family of her own,
Had embarked on the path of single
Motherhood. Being a traveler
On that road myself, baby items that
My son had out grown that had been
given to me when I was
Very much in need, were happily
Passed onto her.
I love the act of giving because I am
Thankful for what’s been given to me.
