Dedicated to Kim Peek, the real Rain Man, and others whose mind is a gift from God.

In life they tried to to protect me from me,
I was a babe alone among ravening wolves.
Clueless in a world I could not understand,
The cruel world refused to understand me.
I was a battered square peg,
Forced to distort my shape.
Hammered into a round hole,
Defenseless against the rape.
Abstractions were joy to me.
The simple things eluded me,
My frontal lobes defied me,
My hemispheres decried me.
Outer spheres were cold to me,
Inner spheres warmed my bones.
Daily trips to the parts unknown,
In universes aplenty did I roam.
A dullard they saw me,
A laughable fool to all.
Gawked and stared at,
My self-esteem did fall.
Until blackness fell over me,
I tripped the light fantastic.
Living in a world all my own,
Electricity crackled in my mind.
Lightning bolts fired up my imagination,
God's free energy flew before my eyes.
Oxymoron, idiot savant they called me,
Starman a Rain Man, uncommonly wise!

Kim Peek

I had to cry after reading this. What a beautiful tribute to an amazing gifted man. I have seen the movie several times and still shed tears. They are the chosen ones to make a difference in this world. My youngest son is an autistic savant and shares some of the same talents as Rain Man. You helped me see through my sons eyes with your words. Thank you!!!~Peace always! ~Chessly

A fine tribute to such a unique individual who probably had access to more of his brain and knew how to use it; would it were so for all mankind; perhaps the world would know peace at last. Thank you, Rockie. Love and peace to you,

Once again Starman,
You have captured the essence of one unable to give explanantions. In their world though, we are the strange.

Your story/poem is well told and delivered with that hint of mysticism that allows the reader to delve into their own hearts and minds for deeper analogies...

Hope all is well with you and Bridget!

Rocky, Rain Man is such a unique fellow with more wisdom than the average person in so many ways. He thinks outside the box and guess that made him different. What a wonderful dedication for such a unique individual......

Welcome to my world of dark dungeons with pits full of questions and laws forbidding answers.
Welcome to my world where there are only screams of rage if you accomplish anything, where they will battle each others bloody for the privilege to be the first to put you down.
But like an untouchable from India, the cobras will shy at your approaching shadow because they knew you are one of the Chosen.
They didn't believed in Thor's existence until the strike of his lightning bolt made them aware that, by was too late.
