In life they tried to to protect me from me,
I was a babe alone among ravening wolves.
Clueless in a world I could not understand,
The cruel world refused to understand me.
I was a battered square peg,
Forced to distort my shape.
Hammered into a round hole,
Defenseless against the rape.
Abstractions were joy to me.
The simple things eluded me,
My frontal lobes defied me,
My hemispheres decried me.
Outer spheres were cold to me,
Inner spheres warmed my bones.
Daily trips to the parts unknown,
In universes aplenty did I roam.
A dullard they saw me,
A laughable fool to all.
Gawked and stared at,
My self-esteem did fall.
Until blackness fell over me,
I tripped the light fantastic.
Living in a world all my own,
Electricity crackled in my mind.
Lightning bolts fired up my imagination,
God's free energy flew before my eyes.
Oxymoron, idiot savant they called me,
Starman a Rain Man, uncommonly wise!
