The English word "poverty" came from Latin pauper = "poor". Your definition depends on your circumstances today.

Come one come all to where it is at,
News zooms in on the tiniest gnats,
FB's going public with an IPO Phat!
Rich and richer's bank accounts fat.
I want to hang with those alley cats.

Our starving and poor need no relief,
I stand here hearing this in disbelief,
Since all the politicians are well fed,
I might well not vote and stay in bed,
Vivid vids of nuclear Iran in my head.

Cheat the Devil you just might win,
Come on people just one more sin,
One more bite won't fatten the Chin,
St. Peter mistake you for ole' Buddha,
Zen is fashion now and he'll let you in.

Pearly gates get ready open them wide,
All saints and sinners now get inside,
Here comes Steve Jobs with his Apple,
If only Adam had of bit that one instead,
We'd have no poor and we'd ALL stay fed!

Not to mention snakes wouldn't have it so bad, at least the reptilian variety. I heard on CNN that the pearly gates were closed for renovation. Patrick
