This was written back in 1994. I've decided to go on and post it since there's nothing to lose from it anymore.

this morning i awakened
much to my dismay
to a world where i was lonely
and you were still away

there've been many such mornings
and many are to come
i eat my breakfast wondering why
i bother to hold on

and when i sit down to my work
the mission takes control
but i wonder who will keep me warm
when i am gray and old

i think about my daughter
and this renews my joy
but i know someday she'll grow up
and maybe find herself a boy

i hope they will be happy
together like we were then
until the day i went away
and couldn't get back again

i still miss you even though
you let me go

i still see your face when i close my eyes
and i just want to let you know

that even though you've moved along
i'm still holding on

and i love you even though
it can never show

since you each one got tired
of competing with my past
a phantom of a love long gone
on one side built to last

they wondered what's the matter with me
why i refused to give in to defeat
before each one left they asked
these questions to me

why do you miss him even though
he let you go?

why do you look for him inside my eyes?
i just want to know

he's probably moved along
but you're still holding on

and where will i be
if he ever shows?

(((nubianne)))

profound, heartbreaking read...keep writing, and look back to where you once were, see where you are now, and look forward to the future with healing, hope and joy! (i wish this for you, dear lady)

i've only been writing since 9-11, but i've seen how far i've come, and look forward to the pathways ahead :)

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)

mmm...the bittersweet irony of it all...good write here, Nubianne. Maybe now you have let this verse go, you can let it all go...but saying that, I know only too well that it will never go away completely. Good luck lady poet and thanks for sharing this.
