Days of Jibatigon

This poem is inspired by my book, "The Little Boy of the Forest". The name "Jibatigon" is what the Ojibwa called the lake where we have our family cottage.

Days of Jibatigon

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take

He remembered those from before
From the early days of Jibatigon
When in the sky you could see an eagle soar
But those days are now gone

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take

He recalled his own ancestry
From the time of the great steamships
He remembered all in his family tree
Holding onto a chain where time slips

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take

They have all forgotten him
No tales about him do they boast
They have all forsaken him
And think of him as a ghost

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take

He wonders why Nature makes this claim
From this world he sees no evidence
That anybody even remembers his name
He was lost long ago and been gone ever since

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take

He had not given up on any of them
He still holds them dear to his heart
Each of them to him a precious gem
Each in his life played an important part

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take

Now he sees that things will change
Now that the century has come to an end
Now everything will be rearranged
And his wounds will finally mend

The Little Boy of the Forest
Looks out upon the lake
He hears nature’s chorus
Sing that this world is his to take.

Ojibwa- Indian right...
This sounds like a song not a poem, but a poem is a SONG, with added choruses! So, hmmm... Love this sweet endearing story.
He had not given up on any of them
This part: He still holds them dear to his heart
Each of them to him a precious gem
Each in his life played an important part - Feels so personal and private, and I love the warm appreciative feeling it emits Joe ~
A HEALING POEM - the little boy is feeling more positive, BETTER things are to come!
When WE believe and try to step out to succeed!
Love it!

love the "Ojibwa"...I drink a special tea from their herb knowledge...

not sure if the piece is enhanced or distracted by the repetition of "The little Boy of the Forest"...for me I tended to ignore it after the 3rd repetition...I did enjoy the storyline of the piece, and felt myself pulled into its magic...
