This poem is not as angry as it may seem. It describes the tension one feels when waiting for the inevitable to unfold.

I feel churly
Like curdling milk
Boiling from a scoured pot
Flowing onto a soiled stovetop
Already encrusted by me
When I felt this way before
I feel whirly
Like an obsessed dog
Going after a fleeing tail
That will never stop
Remaining elusive
Until I have to give up
I feel burly
Like a bulging sack
About to split
Onto the pavement and
Releasing rotting contents
Trapped down inside me
I feel surly
Like an angry rat
Tired of the cage
Wanting only to get out
No longer caring
About what it will cost
It’s the hurly burly
The angst of inaction
The edgy wait
For the unpleasant to unfold
Helpless to stop its momentum
All I can do is stew and groan
I feel curly
Twisted from head to toe
In a frazzled red haze
Not seeing any way out
I’m missing ignition
But still ready to explode
Storyteller on the Lake

Really great descriptions to which I can totally relate, except I feel this way not in relation to the "unpleasant to unfold," but all that I've been waiting for - that highest, most elusive expression that is all too possible and could, if circumstances permitted, happen in an instant. But it doesn't. And even though you may want to give in to resignation and letting go, you can't help but hold out a little longer, then longer, then longer . . . . in a strange state of stewing and groaning mixed with invigorated envisioning and wanting . . . Here's to Churly!
