In 2010, I launched a Blog as a platform to support my first two novels. iLook China, that Blog, became a full time job leading to this poem and explains my absence from Authors Den.

Traveling the book littered
Trail of Blues
Started in a late 20th century China
Followed by a 2008 Website launch
For a Splendid Concubine
Soon followed by  late-night guest spots
On talk radio
Even at midnight for 60 minutes on the X-Hour

There were also a few costumed events in
Bay Area brick-and-mortar bookstores.

Sales were dismal that year.
In 2009, the trail went virtual
To Book Blogs scattered
Across a global Internet
SPAM quickly filled my e-mail in-box
Skyrocketing to new heights
Learning the hard way
We can't please everyone,
The Concubine was
Bashed in Hong Kong
When the Voice O. F. Reason
Cried disappointment
Of one of five Tangs missing a "g"

Then the Concubine was raped in soggy London
By an anal-retentive grammarian
Pointing out obscure "violated" rules.

Finally came the Midwest Book Review, which offered praise for the Concubine,
and City Weekend Magazine in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou
Said she was a sweaty matrix of destruction and painful birth.

With that under her robe,
The Concubine picked  up a few honorable mentions
From San Francisco to Nashville
Then landed a 2010 Finalist position.

Watching Chine closely,
She launched a platform Blog toward orbit early in 2010
Writing a thousand words a day
While writing replies to Spain, Turkey, Australia, Europe, Scandinavia, the UK…

The Concubine stood her ground when she was
Assaulted by the Falun Gong
and attacked by Sinophobes

The Concubine took a closer look at China
and powered her rocket high into the virtual sky
Climbing the Google Heights;
Growing an Alexa ranking.

I wished I'd been there when
The
Rock Bottom Remainders
With Steven King, Amy Tan and friends
Sang it best about the Book Promotion Blues,
Which are
Stranger than Fiction.

Good Grief, I know exactly what you are talking about. It is a never ending battle which I never fully engaged in and so I lost. I enjoy writing the stories, not trying to publicize them.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Lloyd. And yes, that does explain why you have not been around AD very much. Love and peace,

WOW!! You have been a busy man!
I am seeing the positive here instead
(if you don't mind)
How exciting to travel too & promote
over in China! Everywhere you have been!!
No matter the outcome it's all empowering you
inside the self marketing experience
you surely are having a great experience!!

It is hard to self promote, (being the little fishes)
and approaching potential prospects. And Honorable Mentions!!
Now you are a bigger fish in the sea of writers
This is outstanding Lloyd!!

All My Best Wishes For You

Welcome back, Lloyd. I missed you.
You'll feel a lot better once the cash register chimes.
