Anonymous faces
Stare at me
Then go home
To their TV
This cold bench
Is where I stay
Wonder if I'm in
The way
Hunger ravaging
Deep in my gut
Infection in
A ragged cut
Only coldness
All around
Lonely makes
A hell of a sound

Anonymous faces
Rush on by
Not seeing the
Tears I cry
The pain of living
Is too much
I ache for one
Tender touch
Every day is
About the same
Playing the
Survival game
Walkin these old
Streets alone
Hope and will
Are long gone

Anonymous faces
They don't care
Smell of chicken
In the air
The world is still
Moving on
I'm standing still
Existing alone
No bed to sleep in
But a cold ground
Nothing to eat
But some scraps I found
I don't own much
Just the clothes on my back
A lifetime of living
In a paper sack

This was a truly deep and compassionate work of empathy! A beautiful and sad poem about the ugly reality of a social tragedy! Very touching and THANK YOU for writing this!

Powerful and numbing in the fraility of Time's lives, Linda, I feel a touch guilty in being selfish to my needs, while averting my face to that which is painful to see. The look on this fellow's face will haunt me, it could be any of us, it could be me...

Oh Linda, what a poem, what a reminder! We close our eyes to hungry, needy, silent and vocal pleas everyday! Or else, we just don't see, or want to see need all around us! Yet, we continue to waste! We spend soooo much money on sooooo many useless things, yet refuse to assist someone in need! How sad! Thanks for this poem!

What an angel heart you have.
We have so much to be thankful for.
I feel so blessed to be in the business of helping people who would otherwise be in the sad state you describe so well.
If everyone just gives a little it can make a big difference.
Beautiful poem.
