Dear Mother,

Dear Mother,
May I talk to you?
Just, my dear mother, for a minute or two--
It is time for me to let you know how I really feel
You see, I’ve done a few things I’m not proud of
But the lessons I’ve learned are so real
I’ve never really thanked you for all you’ve done for me
I’ve never shown you how your love has made me see
That the best things in life are not of material gain
But it’s this stuff in my heart and plastered on it is your name
I’m not sentimental, you know that, my dear Mom
I’m not the mushy type but what I want to do will do no harm
Mother, can I just hug you oh so very tight?
May I allow my love to embrace you for it is you that gave me life
This moment in your arms feels like heaven to my soul
I’m sorry for all I’ve put you through and if the truth be told—
I’m no singing Whitney Houston, no dancing Madonna or talking Ricky Lake
But I feel like the most blessed of daughters to have a mother like you on my plate!
I thank you, my dear mother, for all you’ve done for me
Your unconditional love has surely made me see
That the best things in life are not of material gain
But it’s this soft mushy stuff in my heart
And plastered on it is your name!

| THIS POEM WAS THE GREATEST POEM EVER. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A POEM THAT SAYS JUST WHAT MY MOM MEANS TO ME AND WHEN I READ THIS POEM I KNEW IT WAS THE PERFECT ONE. I LOVE MY MOM TO DEATHAND SHE HAS BEEN THERE FOR ME NO MATTER WHAT AND I STILL PUT HER THROUGH A LOT OF PAIN AND I NEED HER TO KNOW HOW SORRY I AM FOR IT AND THIS POEM STATES THAT RIGHT IN IT. MY MOM ALSO KNOWS I AM NOT THE MUSHY TYPE. |

The sheer honesty of this is so touching. It's like you opened up your 'mushy', wonderful heart for us, and it's wonderful. Mother's are a precious gift, and your tribute to her along with your honesty about yourself, (which I can certainly relate to), is just great. Loved this.
Ellen
P.S.- Thanks for the comment on God is My Umbrella. I've been looking for a name to call a collection of inspirational poems and I think you just might have found it for me! |
