(To my Mother – Elizabeth Sheila 1929-2007)
Laugh lines deeply etched into her wrinkled face,
Eyes so blue they were like a cloudless summer sky!
Silver white hair, a regal crown she earned.
Enduring strength emanated from her,
And her heart was warm and open.
She was all that embodies motherhood!
I have known the depth of her strength,
Felt the passion of her amazing love!
She comforted me in my darkest moments,
Lifting my spirit as only a loving mother could!
In her heart there was always room for me,
And the door was never closed!
She was the woman I aspired to be,
My guardian angel, my best friend!
But one day she silently slipped away.
And my world was forever transformed
As she took her place among angels!
Pain shattered the depths of my soul,
And I couldn’t see tomorrow without her!
But to have been blessed with a mother
Deserving of soaring with heaven’s best –
Gave me the courage to face my life!
She lives in my heart and in my mind,
And her legacy is golden!
Her capacity to love, and her courage
In the face of everything that came her way,
Is as deeply instilled in me as it was in her!
