Universal Commodity

It's slipping through our fingertips like water......

The world keeps spinning faster.
Can’t think about today
Tomorrow is almost upon us!
Gone are the days when time
Was a universal commodity!
There was plenty to go around
And everyone owned at least a little!
Now more precious than anything
Time slips quickly through our fingertips
More often than not, wasted…
On things that in the end
Simply won’t matter!
The concept of family…
Reduced to dollars and cents!
Children growing up without parents
Expected to learn moral values.
Parents struggling to raise children
They don’t have time to teach…
Not if their children are to be fed!
And the world keeps spinning faster!
Most of us focus on the future,
Material gains, the good things in life
Survival!
But what about today?
Do we take it for granted?
Inevitably…moment by moment …
Precious time is slipping away.
And who knows? Today may be all there is!

A wonderfully written important message.

Today is an accumulation of the unfinished past.
Tomorrow is merely a distraction from that.

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift... that's why it is called. 'The present'

When life really does feel like this, it is time to go on a silent retreat. At somewhere like Worth Abbey.

Our lives are measured chronologically by time but we can only endeavor to live them according to deeds and the impression we leave behind. Those footprints in the sands of time should lead to a better tomorrow, and if not, a new world.

You are so right Anna, we all tend to rush towards tomorrow in this great expectation that something wonderful is in the future forgetting to live today.

Time? I find the days, weeks, months and years spinning by so quickly I truly feel that there are only two days of a year: The Fourth of July and Christmas and all between is a blur. The days of raising my children are as though they never happened and belonged within another life. Your words ring so true to me Anna.

You've put perfectly something that has been haunting me recently...but it's how to get off this never-ending merry-go-round that is the problem, as we are all caught up in it whether we like it or not...but sometimes as you say today may be all there is...A very thoughtful piece...Hugs, Diana
