The United Nations has declared 2011 "The Year Of The Forest".....take a walk into the forest and simply listen....with your heart!

Some of them have stood for a century,
Anchored firmly to the earth,
Their resilience completely astounding!
Standing here, amid an endless sea of green,
My senses are gently overwhelmed
By the magnificence of the forest!
Musky bouquets of lichen and mosses,
Intermingled with the heady perfume of pine and fir.
Intricate patterns on shimmering leaves
So many shades of green
Defining such splendid hues near impossible!
Now and then a slight crackling
Where a forest dweller treads warily
Upon a carpet laid down by the trees!
Birdsongs…sweet melodies carried along
On the warm summer breeze!
Closing my eyes, I hear my own heartbeat!
Breathing deeply, my soul is cleansed
And with my feet planted firmly on the forest floor
I am one with the gently swaying trees,
That whisper, ”welcome” to me!
Place yourself amongst the trees
In this United Nations “Year of the Forest”
And you will hear their voices…
Speaking to your soul!

Beautiful, Anna! Just beautiful...I grew up enjoying the forests...miss them greatly, but still have trees here...

So stirring, so beautifully stated in words that cause a longing for tall, densly seated trees and leaf and moss coated ground.
Great poem, Anna, my friend.

I love the forests and love this poem Anna, wonderful reminder of how lucky we are just to live in a country where first of all we have forests to admire and enjoy but also the time and freedom to enjoy them without fear of bombs and war.

I love this one Anna! The colors and scents you create are spectacularly real.
I can't honestly think of any place I'd rather be than hiking in the forest...well okay or at the ocean is perfect too.

Nice wording here, Anna. Though not exactly an outdoor kind of guy, I appreciate the natural beauty and function of the forests of this world. For starters they give off the very oxygen we need to breathe, plus the forests are home to millions of different forms of life who depend on it for their very survival. Nice poeem.

The Forest is still my favorite place to be. And I truly hope many heed your advice, and that many will become Forest Advocates because we are losing them much too fast these days.
