Whimsy combed the beach each day
Searching for a friend…
A pal to share her secrets with
On whom she could depend!
Things she shouldn’t tell a soul
Secrets she should keep!
For only mermaids know the truth
Of Neptune’s treasures deep!
One afternoon she found me there
Combing the beach alone…
Searching the sand for mermaid’s tears
Treasures to call my own!
She played upon the waves awhile
Dashing here and there…
Bright emerald eyes watching me
Wondering if she’d dare!
She finally got the courage
And swam right up to me…
And from that moment my best friend
Was a creature from the sea!
The little girl and the mermaid
That no one else could see,
Kindred souls that shared one heart
And that heart belonged to me!
Life goes on as seasons change
And the child grew up one day.
But even now, when she’s by the sea
Whimsy comes to play!
