My Poetry
For farmers toiling fertile land
Working hours with calloused hand
Overcoming adversity
Providing for humanity
For you — I write my poetry.
For those who live in our small towns
Surviving seasons of greens or browns
Fires, floods, a droughts consistency
Moving on from natures cruelty
For you — I write my poetry.
For city dwellers who like bright lights
Traffic, smog, historic sights
Laneways housing increasing needy
Hawkers, scammers and bankers greedy
For you — I write my poetry.
For many young soldiers who gave their lives
Leaving behind family and wives
Thousands have died so needlessly
Enjoying our freedom, because of your bravery
For you — I write my poetry.
For those elected to seats of power
Playing politics hour after hour
Forgetting people amongst bureaucracy
Voters remember your accountability
For you — I write my poetry.
For our learned scholars of highest reverence
Teaching the young literary ebullience
Some forget the power of simplicity
In rhyming stories and all their beauty
For you — I write my poetry
With smiles or tears of total contentment
And feelings of unwavering commitment
The scribe pens lines so diligently
One understands the written complexity
For me — I write my poetry.
