There's an ugly old toad in the sugar-cane crop,

he poisons the lizards and snakes,

He is seen on the road

where we hear him explode

with the eerie commotion he makes.

The kangaroos hop so afraid they might stop

and be faced with the spit of the toad,

for more scary are none

than that wart covered one

who lives where the sugar-cane's sowed.

He came not from here,

but be kind to him dear,

for he never wanted to come,

he was forced in a sack

and can never get back,

nor ever forgive what we've done.

So he'll spit and he'll cuss

for he hates all of us

and his children grow billions in score.

and they eat all our frogs

and spit at our dogs

and will ruin us ever more.

You may say it was dumb,

that we forced him to come,

we should never have gone down that road

and the worst one I fear,

is the one with me here

on my bed sits the monstrous toad!

He awoke me just now,

with his feet on my brow

it's a certianty... at ME ...he'll spit ,

for I tell not a lie ,

if he sees me I'll die ,

and in terror I'm trapped ...under... 'IT' !!

Stunning! Your imaginative world is alive and should be thriving.
The rhyme, the beat, the meter is superb.
The story is competition winning stuff.

A humorous look at a serious situation. This "mistake" has been done all over the world. Witness the starling here in North America for one. There are many other examples. Thank you for sharing this meaningful, apt, and timely write, Kay. Love and best wishes,

Perhaps he'll be kinder now that you wrote about him... or not.
There's a great rhythm to this that carries the reader ever onward and brings them right to your bed to witness the terror.
