A Poem
By Jacqui Walker Gray

Head of sea foam
Kissed with
Paraiba cherries,
Vodou child
Caught in the land
Of Fairies.
Voices echo
Through long corridors
Whispers come in like shouts
To the gifted child.
Enthralled, they don’t see
And refuse to believe
That the house
Jack built,
While grand
Is still just stilts
Where love never goes
Despite how much he owns.
Vodou child
Can’t even smile
Amidst her steed
And wagon for three,
Till she hears
Beyond her fears
And walks off
To get lost
With Fairies.
