This poem has been translated by Carlo Zuccarini. The original poem, Tribute to Fishermen, was written in English and has been on my website for a few weeks. Since many of my readers speak Italian or have relatives who do not understand English, I had it translated for them.


Omaggio ai pescatori

di Joanna Leone

 

Trascorri una giornata al mare ed osserva i sorrisi dei pescatori

 

Canne da pesca, bussole e frangivento grigi e blu,

 

con il cielo celeste e la brezza fresca ti senti rinascere anche tu.

 

Come uno scialle, il sole ti avvolge e ti ripara dalla forza del vento e delle onde;

 

spennellato da sfumature estive di acquamarina, malva ed oro, l’orizzonte tocca altre sponde.

 

Munisci di esca l’amo e ti emozioni, consapevole della tua assoluta libertà,

 

le onde scrosciano, il sole dorato non si rifiuta di brillare, e l'anima si colma di felicità.

 

Il cuore si gonfia mentre pensi a tuo padre e alla tua prima canna da pesca:

 

tutti quei racconti di pesci che riuscirono a sfuggire all’esca.

 

Tutto cambia con il passare degli anni, tranne la passione per la pesca ed una giornata trascorsa al mare.

 

Mai perderai la tua passione per il mare, l'odore del pesce, le cose che ti sono care.     

 

 

 

Se ti chiedono perché vai a pesca, rispondi che non c’è niente di meglio per sentirsi liberi.

Per l’uomo, la pesca e il mare sono tra le cose che gli sono più care.
