The screen door clanked as it closed itself.
She stood, looking and thinking.
A breeze blew.
It was warm and gentle.
Oh, so soft and gentle.
Yet, at the same time, powerful.
It brought with it the soothing sound of Santa Lucia and her heart filled with love.
Love for the peace and beauty of her surroundings.
Olive groves and green hillsides beyond the balcony where she stood.
Where the breeze kissed her cheek and caressed her hair.
The sky was so blue, bluer than the eyes of the man she would never meet.
Someday she thought, someday.
As she turned from the old, wooden railing, and faced her aluminum kitchen door she thought,
Someday I will visit Italy.
My mind and my heart have been there, but one day the whole of me will go.
