Waking up in the early morn
The wonderful smell of bacon frying
Biscuits cooking in the oven
with gravy simmering on the stove.
Now have your glass of juice first my dear
Can't go to school with out this meal
Aw momma do I have to eat?
What I would not give for it now.
Home from school on any day
Off the long bus ride home
Open the door to my house
It never failed to be a surprise
Gingerbread or apple pie
Sweet potatoes or fresh donuts
I will never forget the wonderful smells
that always came from my momma's kitchen.
Supper smells would roll through the house
Some nights just vegetables, that was fine with me.
Fresh peas, corn, tomatoes and cornbread
Now that's a meal fit for a king.
Now Sunday's meals were always special
Chicken frying on the gas stove
Homemade mash potatoes, what a treat
All the fixings gathered around.
The wonderful smells from my momma's kitchen
What I would not give to smell them now.
But wait I do, what is that I smell
The same special memories floating from my own.
My momma taught me well!
