I Have Been There...

I won't forget what it was like to be an abused child--and I refuse to let the abuse make a victim out of me. I have been there..and I will not forget. I will reach back into the shadows and offer a hand to others who linger still in the pain of their past.

I have been there...

Can I forget-now that I’m free

The hopelessness – the destiny

Of darkness that pervades

The secrecy of home;

That hiding so efficiently

Devours the life of little ones

Who have no place to go?

Day follows day into the night

And none can estimate the plight

Of stricken faces pressed in pillows

Knowing, yet denying,

Sorrows that the night can hold.

Cover me!  Let no one see

Death devouring dignity!

The child is left alone.

You have endured so much sorrow and inflicted with pain, yet your poems reflect your strenght and determination. You are a special gift, and many people who have been abused will learn a lot from you.

This poem is riveting. Well done!
I was also abused as a child and I had to learn to rise above it. My past still comes back to haunt me and I have to fight off the demons of darkness. Still, we must be thankful to God for having a chance to rise above it all and prosper.

Dear Linda, what a great discovery I made today, when I stopped at your Den by chance. Only those who have been there understand, what other don't.My mom never went to school and what I learned from her no university could offer. The secret is Love in its real meaning. I will be happy to have your visit in my Den. Love to all of you. Emile

Sorry you were abused, but help was given you and this will get to others to let them know they are not alone either.
