How Do We Let Them Go?

The challenge of parents when our children are small is to train them to reach their full potential--physically, intellectually, and spiritually. The challenge when they grow up--is to let them go.

When Our Children Stray…

You want to protect them to keep them inside

An insulated bubble, encasement of the mind.

The world is the habitat of beasts of every kind.

Lust, and drugs, murder, hate, disease and suicide,

Lurk beyond the painted walls of every parent’s home

And monsters of deception, the streets and alley’s roam

Oh God of Might and Miracles, how do we let them go?

Children wandering in the night, unaware of so

Many sorrows that await, so many traps to spring

Upon their unsuspecting minds and rob them of

Their wings.

Oh let them soar above the din of mortal vice and sin,

Oh take them higher on Your wings than they have

Ever been.

Oh God of love and faithfulness, be ever at their side,

Speak into the hallowed heart that is forever thine.

Oh Master of the Universe, Oh mender of the paths

Bring back the lost and heal their hurts, spare them of the

Wrath

Of Enemies of ancient lore, of dragon fire unleashed

Hold them close in your Great Heart their innocence

To keep.

And if they stray into the den of liars, and of thieves

Wrap yourself around their soul and give them eyes

To see.

The predators that lurk beyond the veil of unbelief

Return , oh children, to the One who offers  sweet relief.

He’ll bind your wounds and cleanse your heart and take

You to his rest

He’ll vanquish all your enemies and dress you in His best

Robe of white—and place his ring upon your trembling hand

Though we may sob and grieve your loss, He’ll bring you

 back again.

Tested ,tried and purified, humbled by your pain,

He’ll lift you high on wings of Love and turn your loss to gain.

He’ll send you out, your broken heart a prize secured by Grace,

That brothers stumbling in the dark may  learn to seek His face.

And every once in a while our children, whom we worry so much about, surprise us and stand up for what they know to be right...Our daughter did that this week. I couldn't be prouder of her.

Dear Linda,
I think the most difficult job of a parent is to give out children their wings and then watch them stubmble and fall. Most get back up again and learn from their mistakes. Their mistakes is the only way they learn beside our examples. It's tough to watch them blunder. When they hurt we hurt.

This poem is very true and close to my heart. It sounds like a prayer that all parents that desire for their children to serve their creator would speak straight from the heart. I know it rings true from this heart! I really can identify with the fear of what is out there. But I also feel that they we have given them the tools to fight and they will fight when they know that they are in the battle. Love ya, Keep on writing!!!!!

there is great teaching in your words. and many have road on the waves of our children through so many things, yet love abounds and patience and understanding are still there.

There is no love so deep, no pain so pure, as that which springs from the joys and challenges of parenting. Our children must make their way through a world gone wild--a jungle of deception and despair. Never let us forget the power of a parent's prayers. Sometimes, our prayers may be the only thing that stands between our children and the predators that prowl the streets in search of lost souls. Today I will claim the words of James, the brother of Christ, "The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) avails much." We need not despair--we need to hold our children up in prayer.
