the eye of winter
peeks
through flesh colored trees
one final gaze
at empty branches
bosque shadows
dusty river beds
a fine opaque line
between freeze and thaw
one month's time, but
an evolution minute
the river won't freeze
in brief december
but its pulse runs quick
come spring
