You are my oldest son, Aaron,
26 today.
And my, oh my,
what a pleasure to say
it inspires me to kick back
and reflect for a while
on all my memories with you. . .
Well, I should smile!
Remember Yosemite
with our family and Wayne's--
There was Michael and Jocelyn,
Eric, Ariel and Lorraine.
(And you and me, of course.)
You each had totem T-shirts:
Your Eagle, Ariel's Bear, Eric's Dome.
We razzed Eric about his "butch"
all the way home. Dome, Dome, Dome.
Well, I should smile.
Remember the Circus--
all the neighborhood piled in
to our blue truck and camper
for a whirlwind spin.
And in a day of delights
among the brightest to be
was the little girl named Malea,
singing, "Cody, Cody, Cody."
Well, I should smile.
Remember Tom and Rose's
and Bully Boy Bart--
You, Eric, Zack Willie and Ariel
were all taking part.
That little Bully Boy
was sucking up bottles
as fast as he could possibly swallow!
Well, I should smile.
Remember, too, son
as your life moves along,
build proud and cherrished memories.
One day you will pass them
to family and friends
much like my dad did for me.
Well, my beamish boy, I should smile!
