This poem is dedicated to Roxy Gordon, a Chactaw Indian Poet. Roxy won many awards in his lifetime for his historical poetry about the Indian Nation.

Loss of a Story Teller

Ode to Roxy Gordon

by Jim Stewart c 2000

Put Another Headdress on the mantle

Let his ashes blow in the wind.

The cowboys think they won another battle

But the Indian Nations have another lore

The Whiteman has it's fancy stories

And brag about winning the Indian Wars.

But the Redman cries today

About the loss of another lore.

The Whitemans tales were documented

In fancy journals and newspapers

The Redman handed down it's tales

Using generations of Indian Lore.

Once in a while these tales were documented

By the story tellers of the Redman's world.

Documented so that the Modern Man

Could read about this world.

Such a story teller has left us.

But at least we have his words.

So put another headdress on the mantle

And may his ashes bow in the wind..

So sorry God took him away. But his time was up and God wanted him for his duties in heaven. He will be missed by you and others, but that great spirit of us has traveled on to a better plane of existence. Forever and Forever let it be so.
