I originally wrote this as a song. A friend of mine, Townes Van Zandt, and I were talking about sneakining into the bushes at an old church on Wednesday nights and listening to the Black Choir and the Preacher. Then walking away feeling good. This coupled with an urge to let people know, as long as you have faith there is hope.
God Will Give You His Light
By Jim Stewart c 1994
The church bells were ringing
And the black choir was singing
And the preacher was a preaching his word.
Don't Be afraid of the darkness tonight
Don't be afraid of the storm
Don't b afraid the darkness tonight
For God will give you his light.
The bible it sat on my Grandma's knee
Where she read me verse
And sang softly to me.
She said
Don't be afraid of the darknes tonight
Don't be afraid of the storm
Don't be afraid of the darkness tonight
For God will give you his light.
Now the storm clouds have risen
And my fears moved away
And a rainbow has risen
To start a new day
And the church bells are ringing
And the black choir is singing
And the preacher is preaching his word.
Don't be afraid of the darkness tonight.
Don't be afraid of the storm.
Don't be afraid of the darkness
For God will give you his light.
