From 5th to 8th grade I was on the track team...

I was in the eighth grade-
A runner of the 50 yd. dash
Ball throw...running broad jump
440- passing the baton

I came in 3rd in 50 yd dash
Time 7.3 seconds
Ball throw-12 inch softball
110 ft. no show

Running broad jump
10 1/2 ft.
Still didn't show
In the 4 places...one more to go

The 440 consists of 4 runners
They pass the baton
To the next runner
Who is waiting with their arm out

I was the third runner
Passed off the baton beautifully
And then I stepped in the next lane
We were disqualified...would have won

No one said anything to me
I was so hard on myself
It took time
For me to forgive and let go

We all are often too hard on ourselves Deborah in particular if we think we let someone else down. Just one of those little life hurdles we all overcome :)

Athletic competition is tough when we are young. We judge ourselves by it. I was fortunate to excel in all kinds of physical things except athletic competition where someone always beat me at my game. Luckily I had that noncompetitive athleticism to fall back on.

so glad you let this go (not the baton) For some reason, even though you were the best, another had to win for the moment. definately let it go.
