Trying to make sense of it all sometimes reveals unexpected rewards, those moments when the obvious becomes unavoidable. Laughter is rationed, begging pause to recognize such joy is often smothered by the everyday-darkness of conflict. So true the maxim: what you resist persists.

Experience as Shadow

Experience carries forever the joy and burden
yet our hubris assumes possession
even as war identifies nightmare
and birth reveres unrealized dreams
we carry on as if mirrors never become cracked

Occurrence without imperfections
realizes but a moment of fantasy
when Time allows eyelids to close
inviting respite before inordinate awakening
revealing once again

Man's fear of flames
even as ignoring same
fuels the fire

Who among us truly knows Understanding's mysteries
perpetual push and pull
ebb and flow
brightness of light
compelling darkness
infinity's whisper of silence sublime

Experience as shadow
our ethereal companion
faithful to a fault
ever ready to forsake our worship
anxious to be the playful jester
if only we would lighten up
allow occasional light to expel the safety of shadow...

October 2011 I finally, after decades of losing the battle of the shadow did I have an epiphany, n awakening. It was such a mind-blowing event I was allowed to forgive myself of past misdemeanors and felonies, and freed my . . . soul, for want of a better word. It is an amazing feeling to finally be set free from the shadows.
