Short experiences sometimes endure even the long experiences yet to come.

Crazy Shit, That Rain

I heard it said
Old age in Mississippi
Like middle of the night rain
Lonely and cold
Worthy only of prison yards
And soup lines

That rain
Visits my granny and dog
All the time
Makes slow the calloused feet to move now
Shufflin' across wooden planks
Skinny dog by her side
Shufflin' too
Draggin' what energy's left
Just to remind each other
Life ain't over ‘till it's over

Trembling limbs hold fast
The treck from bed to toilet to bed
Middle of the night rain
Keeps tappin at the door

Crazy shit that rain
Only saw it once
Hitchin' coast to coast
Back in the day...
Overnight visit with granny it was
Coulda stayed longer
But the rain...

I'm thinkin' all that now
Peerin' from my penthouse window
Central Park dimming
Summer night with the Bard
Rained out
Eloquence I don't know
So I listen from afar

Near or far
All the same
When waiting to make the sale
1 kilo
Another month's rent

Empty room's an empty room
Dark room's a dark room

Old rain
Young rain
Tappin' seems the same
The door
The window
My conscience

Crazy shit, that rain

There is some poetry that defies discernment. Because it impresses the reader as being personal it is more felt than understood, whereby the reader is at liberty to assign meaning to it freely in a personal way. I enjoy that about poetry.
Peace to you ...
