Trying to understand the chartered course of our short time on earth may seem impossible for those with finite beliefs.

Life Maps

How telling
That which is thought lost
In folds of the map

Easily forgotten traverses
Of forbidden goals
Remembered well
Where creases squeezed tight
Once shown clear one's youthful terrain
Those unmarked paths taken off the beaten track
Beset by thorns and poison
Rivaled only by the indomitable spirit of immortal dreams
Daring defiance once lived with abandon
A course memory left marked on the map
Now a deep wear-torn crevasse in memoriam

Came later goals
Lofty peaks
Longer treks
Rest stops remained postponed

Challenges lead ever higher
Pathfinder instincts give direction
Around and across tributaries of melting adolescence

How telling
The transition
The traverse
Into wiser routes
The gaze upon pinnacles
Even those one dared not attempt

How telling
These mountainous passages
Life's ever changing topography
The rock-hard experience dispersing to scree
Tapering to a valley floor
Time's gradual erosion
Marking a well spent expedition
Ready to venture outside one's neatly folded map

Unchartered imaginings remain eternal

First steps await

we all have them and we can go through quite a few...can't we? those 'life maps'...that constantly chart the course of our growth and declines. well done, thank you.

When anyone can say that; it's been a marvelous journey indeed.

Artful journey telling is one of your fortes, whether it is people or bakery signs. I like the image/symbol of the map's creases once tight and clear-showing, then worn and no print in the crease any longer, that is very cool. How perfect is "Rest stops remained postponed." Your description of what 'happens' to things, people, events is so very unique: "tributaries of melting adolescence" and "experience dispersing to scree". When I read that, right away I felt my once-solid knee joints dispersing to scree. Great way to put that. Lots of positivity comes forth in the last three lines; what dreams may come. I like it. ~~ Diana

There is no map and no manual. And if you stay on the same road it's only a matter of time till you are run over. it's all about diversions. No need to create your own either. The fork in the road Odin......pick.
