In a world habitualized by technology, Syria’s war and the idea of expediency in notifying the next of kin before the public is made aware, has become the province of “man on the street” conscience. A new spin on the right of privacy has been introduced... privacy ignored/claimed for the web. Is there an ethics question here?

Helpless Tears

Primitive are the streets
These rubble laden scars of hatred
Where homeless and soldier morph as one
Where tattered cloth knows not uniform or Kevlar
Where rock and kerosene bottles
Archaic weaponry roil
Against tanks
IED
Rocket launchers
Suicide bombers

Corpses splayed
Like crushed cigarette butts
Atop blood-encrusted ashen plates

Mangy cats and dogs approach cautiously

Moonset and sunrise dust swirls
Carry noxious history
Across fallen walls
Shattered windows
Debris strewn walkways
Where stealth counting and identifying
Race to beat the burial sheets
Being draped over cruelty's bounty

Choking iPhone lenses post randomly
Pictures
Sounds
An abyss by numbers
Someone's
Anyone's
Moment of glory dismembered
Moment of fame undesired

A city away

A mother passes a laptop
Her daughter connected to the world
Swish pans of bodies
Men
Women
Children

Daughter freezes frame

Seizure

One's son
One's brother
Family blood spilled beneath the face
Rescued by a white sheet shroud

Neither speak

Helpless tears fall

As more death lies in wait

Four lines in this, for me, jut out from the very intense composition: "Someone's/Anyone's/Moment of glory dismembered/Moment of fame undesired" Laceratingly presented truth I feel from this. You create 'slice' in the form of words. It is very appropriate. ~~ Diana

Are you writing about Serbia or Syria? In either case, technology will find a way and sometimes make the tragedy greater. The world is rapidly changing and we are riding around the Sun like we always have, caught up in our own transgressions.

Far too many horrors displayed 'instantly' these days, and I fear it will only get worse.

Information is instant. How fast we can analyze information is also changing. Sometimes there are reasons things are not meant to be instant. I can find out my child's grades before they do, if it's updated on the teachers page. Is that right?
