Mommy – you died yesterday
You died in the afternoon
On the day of a new moon
A day of death and rebirth -
The day of the Komen race
As Karen held your face
Between her hands and kissed you
We miss you.
After this I stepped out side
Against a tree I cried and cried
it held me up against it’s shoulder
- Inconsolably
At the moment of your death
When you breathed your last breath
Starting then - we were all on sacred time
Close to the angels – we were being carried
- it was so sublime
We wanted to hold all your possessions
Never let go of our obsessions
As they seem to keep you close to us
We got what we wanted – there was no fuss
Me? I am afraid to forget your voice
As you ride on your pink horse
And the way you looked –
With your silly lemon faces
As you walk your spirit through the Komen races
We looked at pictures in your room
You just left us all too soon
We read your letters and your cards
And at first it was just so hard –
You were all we could think of
You were full of beauty and full of love
How blessed we are to have known you
in our lives
Across the ocean you’re going home
– back to where you belong
Your mother with open arms - awaits –
to hold her beautiful little baby Kate.
We miss you mommy - we love you so much.
Thank you for being in our lives. We still survive,
We still survive. Your candle burns on
Though your children and grandchildren
You will survive, you will survive.
