Violets

Written March 2001
I was wandering the trails at McAlpine Park in Charlotte NC. Suddenly I was surrounded by short stubby violets, as opposed to the slender stemmed violets which grew on the hills in NY. Still, I was in heaven.

I chanced upon some violets,

All purple on a hill.

I sat myself among them.

I sat perfectly still.

They did not make,

A single sound,

But just stared up at me,

When they saw I was a friend,

They asked me who I be.

I said to them, “I am a flower,

Waiting for my time.”

Would they let me wait with them?

They told me that be fine.

I closed my eyes and drifting off,

Upon a fantasy,

I chanced upon a gentle soul,

Twas reaching out to me.

I felt a quiet stirring then;

And opened up one eye.

I’d grown a purple petal,

And another by and by.

Now I sit, a purple face,

All blooming on the hill.

If you want to bloom with me,

I’m waiting for you still.

Shouting Down the Silence

This reminds me of the time I came upon a host of wild Easter lilies in a forest glade. Thank you for sharing this precious experience, Janeen. Love and best wishes to you,
