Autumn Leaves

Awe of Autumn

Be clothed within an autumn mist

Of morningís coolest dew

Look upward to the painted sky

Of seasonís rusty hue

Step lightly midst the crunching leaves

That blow Ďpon  hearty breeze

Then hunker down and lay their bed

ĎNeath winters snowy freeze

Be crisp the night with snap of chill

And short of day be warm

The sunset mirrors the changing leaves

As stars of night do form

The fields be tanned with burdened straw

Of summerís life fulfilled

And autumnís flowers, days be kissed

With seasonís colors willed

ĎNeath harvest moon and scarecrowís lay

Pick last of fruit from vine

And take the bounty season gave

Make sweet the winterís wine

Pluck garden gifts to save for time

When winterís ground be bare

And make the soup for harvestís feast

Of summerís memories fair

Dance lively midst the autumn light

Sweet air the soul does fill

Slide swiftly down the slick brown grass

Now parched upon the hill

Turn pumpkins into spicy treats

Rake leaves to mammoth piles

Don jackets made of fleecy wool

Delight in autumn's wiles

Not sure how I missed this one when it was written, I love all seasonal writes, and I got to admit, I am waiting for winter to replace autumn, but I hope it doesn't last too long...

Oh I hate raking leaves, I just run the lawnmower over them and mulch them up for the winter to allow them to sink into the grass...Peace thru Seasons Changing, Ed & Rufuz

Okay, after reading your beautiful, descriptive words of the coming autumn, I smell raked leaves smoldering as they are gurned in some one's backyard. And I . . . Oh, wait, I need to go and get that light jacket hanging beside the door.

Interesting, Sherry! Just as I read your poem, you read mine, and I'm glad you like Autumn. And it's not that I especially don't like Fall, it's just that as I get older, it reminds me that the cold bitter Midwestern winter is definitely on the way, all too soon.

But the winter wine you mention here should warm my winter weary bones.

It's an absolute delight in form and expression and creates the heart-longing that you command here with all it's heart-warming detail. Has pure unadulterated joy written into every line and conveys due awe and respect with great grace and beauty! A stunner and a keeper! Thank you, Sherry! Kate xx
