Of Teddybears And Tea

Old and over stuffed, the well worn couch is faded
Tossed in it's corners are brightly decorated accent pillows, square and round
Buttercup yellow bananas layered on apple red candy backgrounds
Dark purple plums suspended in lime green citrus tones

Frilly-dressed, my favorite dollies and fur-so-brown teddy bears
Are allowed to primly sit on the screened-in veranda porch
We keep one eye on the black enameled clock, ticking-tocking
One eye closely trained on the squeaky-hinged backdoor

Whispered chattering, we keep the conversation light and lively
A babbling brook that flows as we await the pleasure of your company
You rap three times in quick succession, an announcement of our secret signal
I say, " Do come in, " with a smile upon my face
Per usual, your ' Grand Entrance ' style enchants
With a sweeping flourish motion you remove your black top hat
Big bear hugs and smoochie kisses on the cheek
Hearty hand shakes and good natured slaps on the back, glad greetings all around
Smooth of voice, you smartly say, " So nice to see you Gents and Ladies,
I've made it just in time! " Fat raindrops start to fall, splitter-splat
Beating rolling rhythms on the tinroof, their aluminum destination

The hydrangea tea set is surrounded by heavy cream, sugar cubes, and lemon wedges
My pouring ambiance is elegant with spark and spice
We gently sip, then eat our fill of dainty frosted petit-fours
Our friendship is cemented in laughing hand and footprints

The afternoon gives way with haste as early evening comes to call
" T'is sorrowful sad that you must leave again "
Your answer is, " Fare thee well, but your standing invitation is accepted
I shall come again tomorrow for the next edition gathering of
Miss Victoria's Teddybear Social Hour and Late Afternoon High Tea
