A DRIVE UP FUNERAL HOME!!
Call me slow, behind the times, obviously, missing the beat,
Maybe, too broke to visit a drive-up funeral home, I feel cheap.
I just couldn't imagine it, but then again, thinking crazy, I could,
Somebody I know, needs a "pass" to one, so I can see, and to go I would!
Wonder, if they have an over hanging sign up, for maximum "scream height",
The drive-way, on the back of the building, hold dim lights?
Using, double-sided order windows, for of course family privacy,
Hopefully, not open all the way across, catching an unwanted glimpsing.
Ordering, in the form of the deceased's name, requesting, well-embalmed,
"Pure Life" water would be the drinks, definitely no tea of balsam.
Also, making sure of, hair done, and not too much, ketchup on the lips,
No meat, that's exceptionally dark, under a heat lamp for tips.
Hoping, not too picky, reminding them of extra, "light" dressing, even if paying more,
Attention, is on them, making sure to always watch people in a store.
Window #1, must be where to "pay" respects, getting "change" of the mind,
Receipt in knowing, from them that you will be good and fine.
Get to Window #2, where it's time to see what you have ordered,
They have to finish getting it into the box, like they had days of work.
While waiting, they have you view their new flower salads, on the menu,
Not for eating, but even if so, they are much too pretty to consume.
Waiting, patiently, to get it over with, order is now ready,
The ignition of the car cut off, wanting no mishaps, nervous enough right steady.
Seatbelt, should be removed to reach and catch the sight of the person,
Everybody choked up, they forgot napkins with a mess certain.
Placed in front of the window, horizontally or vertically,
Strapped in carefully, are they flipped over like a rotisserie?
God forbid, they are not the right order, after a look and see,
Never expected to be hot, they come cold, or cool, to the touch,
So, they definitely shouldn't be too oily, but rubbery as such.
Comments, and concerns, should be appreciated, and welcome,
Informing them of how they are doing, as the local drive-up funeral home!
