I lie in bed at the close of day
Listening to my dog snoring away
Without a worry, without a care
Whether or not I’m even there.
I sometimes wish I were like she
And fall asleep with a one two three
I flip and flop and struggle so
With thoughts that will not let me go.
Sometimes I watch her dream her dreams
Chasing rabbits and squirrels it seems
With occasional nightmares of being chased back
And I wake her up before they attack.
As I lie in bed at the close of day
Listening to her snoring away
At the bottom of the bed we both share
I’m still glad that she is there.
