Picture of a Grandpa

I see your gait
tuned to the nature
of your existence
oblivious to any other
call but to fill
one man’s purpose.
The sun dowses
your white head.
Green boughs
bow as if humble
in your presence.
Your stride
stretches much longer
than it appears.
One long step
hidden inside
hearts of those who
hold you dear.
A small child follows
pushes a mower
twice her size
working to keep up.
She wants to do big
jobs like Grandpa.
Later she will climb
on your knee
rest in the crook
of your arm and nap.
