Everlasting

How long shall I wait for thee?

Till counted I every sand of the sea

Every flutter of each hummingbird’s wings

Each precious smile a small baby brings.

How long shall I wait for thee?

Till all nectar gathered by every bee

Till roses lose their fragrance divine

Till poets all run out of rhyme.

What hast thou done to me?

You’ve captured my heart for eternity.

Nothing in return hast thou asked from me

Be constant and true as the timeless sea.

How long shall I endure this pain?

Till you have come home to my heart again

Till your kisses mean that you are mine

And each penetrating look says I am thine.

There is no measure in time or space

To erase from my heart your elegant grace.

The warmth of your touch and loving gaze

Locked safe in my heart shall remain always.

Dedicated to AWB
